Best Dressed Shop Window Competition

This competition is growing in popularity each year, with many additional businesses taking part. This being the case, the 2008 competition was split into 2 categories:

1. Retail - Shops / Florists / Charity Shops etc.

2. Non Retail - Hairdressers / Offices / Banks etc.

There were places for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Highly Commended placings in each category.

PLUS  

The Overall Winner of the Best Dressed Window was presented with the Alansound Perpetual Trophy.

The Judge for 2008 was Morag Morrison - Makeup and Wardrobe Supervisor from STV.

The Theme for 2008 was `MIDSUMMER`. (As Guid Nychburris Day falls on `Midsummers Day` 2008.)

Entrants were encouraged to incorporate festival colours into their display. - The Queen of the South colours for 2008 are black and pale blue (Maxwelltown High School). - The `Sash of Office` colours are Royal Blue and Pale Blue and Johnstone Tartan, in honour of the 2008 Cornet.

Final judging and presentation of the prizes took place on Friday June 13th from 9.00am and shops were asked to leave window displays in place until Guid Nychburris day, June 21st 2008.

The Overall Winner of the Best Dressed Window Competition and recipient of the Alansound Perpetual Trophy is Freckles Bridal Couture of Church Crescent.

Freckles interpretation of the 2008 theme `Midsummer` is a mystical story of Fairies and Flowers, designed by Elizabeth Robson and Kim Taylor.

Morag Morrison from Kilmacolm, the judge for 2008 stated `Freckles Window is outstanding, with great attention to detail, relating to and translating the theme perfectly.

Winner of category 1, `Retail` were Gee-Gees of Dumfries - window dresser Heather Findlater - with their interpretation of `Midsummer` being a wonderful display, depicting the Riding of Marches and Summer Agricultural Shows.

Winner of Category 2, `Non Retail`, were Shylocks Hairdressers in St Andrews St, - window dresser Miss G. McGilliuram with a beautiful handmade collage, depicting `A Midsummer Nights Dream`.  

Thank you and congratulations to all the entrants in 2008 from the Guid Nychburris Fetival Entertainments Committee for making the time to create such wonderful window displays in support of the Festival. All entrants displays will be in place until Guid Nychburris Day - they are all well worth a visit.
